This week in science we learned that if you shine the laser at a mirror, it bounces off at the same angle. The angle that you shine it at is called the angle of incidence. The angle that it bounces off at is called the angle of reflection. We found out that they are the same angles by doing an experiment. Our experiment was to put the mirror on the table and put the protractor standing straight up and the bottom resting on the mirror. Then we shined the laser at a certain angle, really close to the protractor so that we could see the angle of reflection. We also clapped the chalk erasers together to help us see the path of the light.
Another thing we learned this week was that light bouncing off a mirror is like hundreds of tiny bouncy balls bouncing off the wall. We learned that light is made up of particles, and the tiny particles bounce of the mirror and scatter, just like bouncy balls would if we threw them at the wall.
